A young Brazil fan has found internet stardom after he decided to replace Neymar Jr. on his shirt with the name of his female compatriot Marta.
Pictures of the boy went viral after he was pictured walking around the stadium with the Barcelona striker’s name crossed out.
The young boy was supporting the men’s team, but felt that the women were more deserving after Neymar and his teammates were held to a stalemate by minnows Iraq, and the women beat China 3-0.
When interviewed by AJ+, the young fan said: “Marta is passionate, she likes to play football.
Brazil’s female [soccer] team, winning everything like they are, killing it as they are, to me, is a symbol of feminism in Brazil.
“They are the best to me. I think she completely deserves it. She deserves this shirt much more than Neymar.”
Marta’s stats for the national team are extremely impressive, having scored 104 goals in 106 games.
In comparison, the Barcelona star has 46 goals from 70 games, although Marta has been representing the nation for eight years longer than Neymar.
