– The country is now ranked 16th overall on the medals table at the Paralympic Games Nigeria’s Paul Kehinde twice broke the men’s -65kg World Record (WR) to win Nigeria’s second gold in the Powerlifting event at the ongoing Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
Following Kehinde’s gold’s gold win, Nigeria now has four medals (two golds, two silvers) with Esther Onyema winning Silver in the women’s -55kg earlier on.According to Making of Champions, Kehinde opened his account at 205kg which he cleanly took with ease. China’s Peng Hu who won Silver did so with his best mark of 200kg, while Egypt’s Shaaban Ibrahim got Silver with a his best weight of 193kg. Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Esther Onyema has earlier taken Team Nigeria’s medal tally to three after winning silver in the women’s -55kg Powerlifting event on Saturday.
The former champion came very close to winning gold but saw Mexican counterpart Amalia Perez outfox her to take the win lifting a World Record (WR) and also a Paralympic Record (PR) of 130kg. Onyema on her part finished 2nd with 127kg, while China’s Cuijian Xiao won Bronze lifting 115kg. Nigeria’s four medals sees her ranked at 16th overall on the medals table at press time.
