Bobby Shmurda was sentenced to seven years in prison after taking a plea deal for conspiracy to commit murder, as well as various weapons and drug charges TMZ reports. Shmurda has been awaiting trial since December 2014, but instead of facing a jury, he was advised to take a plea deal, which meant pleading guilty to conspiracy to possess weapons and possession of a weapon, to avoid a possible life-sentence from an unsympathetic jury.
Shmurda, born Ackquille Pollard, was originally arrested along with 15 others as part of a long-term investigation into gang-related shootings and drug trafficking in New York City. The rapper was denied bail multiple times outright before one was set for $2 million at the end of 2015. His family was ultimately denied the ability to post.
The 20 months Shmurda has already served in prison will count toward his seven-year sentence. Following his release, he will face five years probation
